NLA: Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential

Students in the Nonprofit Studies program have the option to earn their Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential through active membership in Georgia State University’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) chapter, which is affiliated with a national organization whose mission is to strengthen the social sector with a talented and prepared workforce.  In pursuing CNP status, students are required to complete five national requirements.  They include:
  1. Complete a bachelor’s degree.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in all  10 NLA competencies:
    1. Communication, Marketing, and Public Relations
    2. Cultural Competency and Diversity
    3. Financial Resource Development & Management
    4. Foundations and Management of the Nonprofit Sector
    5. Governance, Leadership & Advocacy
    6. Legal and Ethical Decision Making
    7. Personal and Professional Development
    8. Program Development
    9. Volunteer and Human Resource Management
    10. Future of the Nonprofit Sector
  3. Demonstrate leadership and service
  4. Complete a 300-hour internship
  5. Attend one Alliance Management Institute (NLA’s annual national conference in January)
In addition to the NLA national requirements, Georgia State NLA chapter member must also do the following:
  1. Attend one General Body meeting a month
  2. Earn one networking credit per semester
  3. Earn one community service credit per semester
  4. Earn two fundraising points per semester
Financial obligations include:
  • $25 to the NLA national office to begin student profile on SalesForce
  • $25 new member annual dues for GSU ($20 annual dues for returning members)
  • $35 for certification
