Letter from the Director
One of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. economy is its nonprofit sector which now comprises almost 10 percent of the gross domestic product. As the nonprofit sector expands, the salaries and benefits offered have become more comparable to those of government and the private sector. Perhaps equally if not more important is the opportunity to work to make a true difference in the world.
Georgia State University and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, where the Nonprofit Studies Program is housed, is especially equipped to prepare those presently in the nonprofit sector and those entering to fill this increasing demand. An undergraduate concentration in Civic Leadership is open to all majors as well as a certificate in Nonprofit Management. Graduate degrees are available with concentrations in Nonprofit Management or Policy as well as a PhD program. The Nonprofit Management Program at GSU is ranked the 12th best in the country by U.S. News and World Report.
A talented faculty supplemented with practicing professionals teaches the classes. Quality faculty research enhances the student experience. The rich presence of local, state and national nonprofit organizations in metro Atlanta present each student with a wide variety of locations to perform the required internships and seek eventual employment.
The award-winning GSU chapter of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance provides students the opportunity to earn status as a Certified Nonprofit Professional, which often enhances their job search. The Executive Leadership Program for Nonprofit Organizations, cosponsored with the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech, is a week-long intensive learning experience that offers the latest concepts and strategies in the nonprofit field to those leaders currently working in the sector.
I invite you to explore this website and consider earning your degree or certificate to make a true difference in your life and to the world.
